Amélie Analysis

So Professor Carson wanted the class to watch the movie Amélie and focus on the use of color, narrative, lighting, convergent thinking and divergent thinking.

Instead of watching the actual movie....I decided to watch the musical version ;) It's pretty much the same as the movie just with a lot of singing. As for color, the character Amélie (played by the amazing Phillipa Soo), was always wearing then color red and she really stood out throughout the show. Which brings me to lighting. Many times, the whole set would have a more blue lighting all around while Amélie was in her bright red outfit.

As for the narrative, just like the movie, it is linear meaning it doesn't have any flashbacks or things like that. The only thing that is from the past that is consistent is the younger version of herself.

For convergent thinking, it is the more straight-forward way of thinking. In Amélie, she makes it a goal to help other people and the whole story is her trying to give back a box she randomly found one night. That is the linear, straight-forward way of this story. As for divergent, which is more about "the journey" than anything. Throughout her trying to find the owner of the box she found, she starts to realize her troubles and along the way she learns to deal with them. This also leads to her becoming happier in the end. Due to the journey she took helping others, she also managed to help herself.
